Biography
Surrounded by music since birth, Deviant found his musical passions early on. Returning from a summer in DCI, Deviant found himself in his freshman year of college where he was introduced to drum and bass. The thick bass lines and heavy drum work harkened back to the summer days of hearing the world's most intricate percussion pieces, and he was instantly drawn to the sound. He was also thoroughly thrown into the independent (often deemed "conscious" or "back packer") world of hip-hop due to his college comrades (shout out to Manuvers!).
As Deviant the DJ continued spreading the sounds of drum and bass via his college radio show, Preshapoints, and the local party circuit, he was introduced to many forms of electronic music and styles and genres. Having written music since high school, he gradually learned to combine his musical background with the production aspects in tunes that run the gamut from hip hop to broken beat, with the focus on vibe.
Deviant discovers influences and inspiration from a number of sources, be it digging in the crates, attention to social issues, or exploring various cultures in his travels. His musical endeavors also extend through his jazz-funk-soul-tinged band, Theory Derived, as well as the cinematic soundscapes of his partnership with friend Doone in their group, Project D2. He also organizes the annual charity event known as Exodus to utilize music in uniting the community of Miami in efforts of raising awareness and uplifting the community. Keep an eye open and an ear listening for creative output from this multi-instrumentalist song writer/producer, words-smith, and mic toucher known as Deviant.
